Fly Without Wings

To fly or not to fly?

One frequently asked question is, "If flies had no wings, would they be called a walk?" Below are my theories on how people would react to such a change.

People would not call it a walk. That name just overall sounds... odd. If someone says "I want a walk," then that could mean they want to walk somewhere, OR they want a beetle type thing. This could cause much confusion.

Besides, the "flies" wouldn't really be walking, they would be crawling. The same thing could happen with this word, as with the "walk." Although I can't see why anyone would want a crawl.

Who would want to buy a crawl-swatter?

I think they would merely be another classification of a beetle, unless people continued to call them flies. It really depends. On one hand, if somehow, far back in time someone takes all the flies' wings, that means we would never know of a "fly" to have wings. So therefore, we would most likely call it a beetle of some sort.

On the other hand, if tomorrow, all the flies' wings dissappeared, then we might continue to call them flies because we are used to that, and they did at one point fly.

Does this make sense?
